Authentication
One of the biggest thrills of thrifting is the hunt. But when it comes to high-end or collectible items, authentication is key. The Thriftmoor experience empowers buyers and sellers.
Confidence in Every Find
At Thriftmoor, we know that authenticity matters—whether you're a seller looking to showcase the real deal or a buyer seeking peace of mind. That’s why we offer an optional authentication process through our trusted third-party expert, Real Authentication.
At Thriftmoor, you decide the level of certainty you need while enjoying the best of curated secondhand treasures. Whether you go the certified route or embrace the thrill of the hunt, we make sure your thrift game stays strong. One word: Integrity.
Whether authentication is something you depend on (or not!) we think it's important to talk about choices and transparency. To know where your stand. For more on how authentication works:
Sellers:
If you’d like to certify your item’s authenticity, simply check the Certified Authentic box when listing. This adds a $30 authentication fee (paid upfront), covering expert review, verification, and proof of authenticity. You’ll be required to upload clear photos and details of your item. If approved, your listing will display a Certified Authentic badge, adding buyer confidence and potentially increasing the resale value.
Buyers:
When you see the Certified Authentic badge, you’re getting an item that’s been vetted by professionals. For uncertified items, you can always request authentication before purchase, but keep in mind that the seller is not obligated to agree to the process. Sellers may not have the time or bandwidth to take on the certification or authentication process, or may not see the extra step as worth the investment for them.
The Choice is Yours!
With any given item up for sale, you can do one of two things:
Either A) request authentication, or B) opt for the thrill of the deal...
A. Certified Authentic
For those who want extra confidence, sellers can choose to authenticate their items before listing via Real Authentication, a trusted expert verification service. This service costs $30 per item, covers expert review and certification, and can add a 'Certified Authentic' badge to the listing.
Who Pays for Authentication?
-
Sellers who want to boost buyer confidence (and likely their selling price) can opt in by covering the authentication fee upfront.
-
Buyers who are unsure can request authentication on uncertified items. However, the seller is not required to comply; mutual agreement is key.
B. Buy at Your Discretion
Not every item will be authenticated, and some just don't need to be. Some buyers and sellers prefer to move items quickly. Skipping verification. also keeps prices lower. Some folks use their knack for knowing exactly what they're looking for. Others are perfectly comfortable with the risk. The rest of us are pros and rely on our eye for detail and our gut for great finds! Either way...
Many of us fall into this category and go with uncertified listings. These correspond with less fuss and offer more affordable auction starting prices— but with the understanding that authenticity isn’t guaranteed. There are immense bargains to be found here. But ultimately, it's a personal choice!!
